Unknown cycling team talk to Parker Bathrooms & Kitchens

21st September 2017

Ahead of the team launch of Brighton-based cycling team Unknown, we sit down with team member and colleague James Bullen to ask about competitive cycling and the best cycling spots in Brighton.

How long have you been cycling for and what started your passion?

I started riding in 2011, I decided I'd rather commute than get an often unreliable train. From there I started to ride with friends of friends and got dropped ALOT, I needed to get fit on the bike as I was running at the time but using different muscles. I also started seeing parts of Sussex that I was unaware of like south downs national park, that's part of what got me really hooked, exploring roads that I'd never been down before.

Members of your team have been approached on several occasions to join more establish teams, what's unique about your team and what is your riding ethos?

We have a tight knit group of riders, team work is vital for an amateur team. Regular training sessions, having set tactics for every race and a good social circle means we have created a team that has produced results in our first year and got some attention for it.

Why do you think cycling is so popular in Brighton and around Sussex and are there any routes or spots you would recommend?

There are many cycle ways throughout Brighton & Sussex, we are at the foot of the downs which is a gateway to some of the best roads and hills in the south.

Ditchling beacon is the best hill without a doubt and Ashdown forest is a short (ish) ride too and views can't be matched.
